A payment link lets a patient pay from their phone without calling in a card number. Send it for an unpaid invoice or the whole balance, and the payment records itself.

What you need first

A payment link takes the patient to a page where they pay by card through the provider your clinic has connected, Stripe, PayPal or Square, under Apps Integration. Without a provider the patient's page says No payment method is available for this clinic. The link can be for one invoice or for everything the patient owes.

Send it

1

Open the invoice, or the patient's Billing section for their whole balance

On an invoice, select the payment link action; the invoice must be issued or partially paid with a balance owing. On the Billing section, the link next to Outstanding invoices makes a link for the full outstanding amount across all their invoices.

2

Choose Email invoice, SMS link or Share link

Email invoice sends the link with the invoice PDF attached, to the patient's email or one you type; a preview shows the message. SMS link texts it to their mobile and tells you how many SMS credits it costs. Share link shows a QR code and a Copy button for a patient standing at the desk or paying from a message you write yourself.

3

Send

The confirmation says who it went to and for how much, for example $340.00 across 3 invoices.

A dialog headed Send invoice or payment link with Email invoice, SMS link and Share link options, a To field, an email preview, and an Active links list showing a link, what it covers and when it expires.
The Send invoice or payment link dialog on the Email invoice option, with the patient's address filled in and one active link listed below.

A link works for 14 days. Sending a new link for the same invoice or balance revokes the old one. Active links at the bottom of the dialog lists the ones that can still be paid, with what each covers and when it expires, and a Revoke for each; a link that has already been paid can't be revoked.

What the patient sees, and what happens next

The page is headed Pay your balance and shows the amount and the card form. A link that has been used, expired or revoked says This payment link is invalid, has expired, or has already been used. Please contact your clinic for a new one. If the patient has account credit, it's applied first; a balance fully covered by credit shows Balance settled and takes no card. On success the page reads Payment received, Thank you — your payment has been processed. A receipt will follow from your clinic., and the payment is recorded against the invoice, or spread across the invoices for a whole-balance link, with the card provider as the method. A payment that didn't go through says We couldn't complete your payment, so nothing was charged. Please contact the clinic for a new payment link.; one that went through but couldn't be confirmed says We couldn't confirm your payment just now. Please don't pay again: the clinic will check it and contact you., and the clinic should check the provider before asking for anything. The patient then gets whatever Auto-send receipt is set to on the provider's settings: None, a ClinyPal Invoice or a ClinyPal Payment Receipt.

An expired, revoked or already-used link shows This payment link is invalid, has expired, or has already been used. Please contact your clinic for a new one. If the card payment fails partway, nothing is recorded and the patient is told to try again or contact the clinic.

A link that says the payment couldn't be confirmed needs a check, not a second link. Look at the provider's dashboard before sending anything else; the patient has been told not to pay again.
