Expenses by category and by vendor are the two views an accountant asks for: what the money went on, and who it went to. Both come from the Expenses page.

What they show

Two companion reports over the expenses recorded on the Expenses page. Expenses by category groups them by category with the tax part separated; Expenses by vendor groups them by vendor. Both take a date range and a location, and need the financial reports permission, which Administrators and Bookkeepers have. Archived expenses are left out.

The Expenses by category report with Total spend, Total tax, Expenses and Categories figures and a table of categories with count, tax and total.

Reading them

By category: Total spend, Total tax, Expenses, Categories, then a table of Category, Expenses, Tax, Total. By vendor: Total spend, Expenses, Vendors, Top vendor, then Vendor, Expenses, Total.

Acting on them

The category report is the one for the accountant beside Practice revenue and Tax summary. The vendor report shows who you spend most with, which is where to negotiate. The Expenses page's own Overview shows the same figures for the period you're viewing there; see Track expenses.
