What the stock on the shelf is worth at cost, product by product. It's a stocktake figure and a balance sheet figure, and it's only as good as the adjustments behind it.

What it shows

Stock valuation multiplies each product's stock level by its cost price for a snapshot of inventory value at the location. It takes a location only and needs the financial reports permission, which Administrators and Bookkeepers have. The Ledger value column values the same stock from the cost recorded on each stock movement, so the two agree when purchases were recorded at the right cost.

Reading and acting on it

Headline figures: Stock value, Units on hand, Products, Missing cost price. Columns: Product, Units, Cost price, Value, Ledger value. A product without a cost price counts as nothing; set it on the product. A value that looks wrong usually means a stock count that has drifted: do a count and record an Inventory correction, see Stock levels.
